Paper Publication Available from the ACM Digital Library

December 2010: A research paper, Improving content download performance in online virtual worlds, written by Carl Symborski  is now available from the ACM Digital Library. This paper describes an experimental implementation of a user-generated content download/cache management technique that was tested against a commercial virtual world service and demonstrated effective in reducing network load without introducing additional inefficiencies.

Forterra Systems Virtual World Platform

Carl Symborski once again brought Virtual Worlds to Games Gateway  - U.S. Mid-Atlantic Meetup Group, the presentation took place on June 17, 2009, during which John Burwell of Forterra Systems shared some of the latest developments in the area of virtual worlds and their serious applications in either Government or corporate applications.

Virtual Education From The Inside Out - An example in THERE.com


Carl Symborski planned and led a joint real world/ virtual world presentation providing a fascinating look at education in virtual space.  Part of the Games Gateway - U.S. Mid-Atlantic Meetup Group, the presentation took place on January 15, 2009, and focused on the University of THERE (UOT) as an example application of existing social online services to deliver "serious games" end products.  Our expert presenters included Dr. Celia Pearce, the director of the Emergent Game Group at Georgia Tech, and Frank Whiting, dean of the UOT who is also an Academic Instructor in Computer Science for Shasta College.
